Currently we do not have much information on the Pickle Factory, and welcome any contributions to expand this story. And if photos exist of anything connected to the Pickle Factory it would be wonderful to share them here.
What we have so far is:
-
Location: entrance on Main St where is now the Carpet Shop frontage, and a large barn type building. The Methodist Chapel used it up until 1990s? for storage of staging and scenery used in the Pantomimes.
-
Operating as a Pickle Factory during the 1940s and was unionised in 1947, but when it started and when closed is unknown.
-
Believed to have been connected to the Methodist Chapel or the family of Butlers and Dunkleys who were big players in the chapel.
-
Bill Parr of Blackwell was fond of telling that he had a girlfriend who worked there but he had to finish with her as the smell of vinegar was too strong!
