Blackwell Wakes Listening Station
To celebrate the much loved Blackwell Wakes, Greater Creative commissioned three local professional creatives in 2023 to create an interactive listening station for the Blackwell Heritage Weekend in September 2023.
The installation showcased a selection of oral history recordings collected from local residents, bringing memories of the Wakes to life through first-hand stories.
At the heart of the installation was a recreated Waltzer Cart. Visitors were invited to sit in the cart, put on the headphones and pull down the safety bar, which triggered an audio experience featuring local voices sharing their memories of the excitement, traditions and community spirit of the Blackwell Wakes.
The listening station was a wonderful way to interactively share the stories of this much-loved local event across the generations and current residents in the parish, allowing visitors to experience Blackwell’s heritage in an engaging and immersive way.
