ABOUT OUR PROJECT
The ‘Home Truth’ is, if we don’t save and celebrate our own history, nobody else will.
Collecting, sharing, showcasing and preserving our local history is important to us and through our ‘Home Truths’  heritage project we’re working with the community to delve deeper and to ‘dig where we live’ to discover more!  We’re excited to be working with creative professionals to co-design wider community engagement and dissemination opportunities to heighten the visibility of our peoples past and place.

This website serves to be one of the ways that we share information about our local history here in Blackwell Parish. Much of the content shared here is with thanks to local historian Tony Mellors who kick started the possibility of this website, provided a wealth of information and co-designed this platform for the group to feed into.

Here’s a bit more about the nuts and bolts of what Home Truths will be doing as a wider project in the coming years:

  • Voices of Blackwell Parish: We’ll collect and produce oral histories, including curated walks along the ex-industrial trails, creating podcasts and audio resources
  • Participatory Programme: We’ll design and create opportunities to get involved and engage with local heritage via events, workshops, exhibitions and/or installations
  • Roots 2 Routes: create more content for a smartphone app, that will store digital assets including oral histories and tours around Blackwell parish on an interactive map that can be used by residents, visitors and local schools
  • Explore and Test: learning about applying our model to a nearby community or two

….And no doubt many other wonderful other things that emerge through the  co-design and delivery process! Keep an eye on our Greater Creative Facebook page to learn more about our movements and sign up to our newsletter here

We look forward to hearing from you and if you’re local or have a connection to here we hope you will get involved in the project too!

Home Truths is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to facilitate all the projects seen here on the website.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund is the largest funder for the UK’s heritage. Using money raised by National Lottery players we support projects that connect people and communities to heritage. Our vision is for heritage to be valued, cared for and sustained for everyone, now and in the future. From historic buildings, our industrial legacy and the natural environment, to collections, traditions, stories and more.

Heritage can be anything from the past that people value and want to pass on to future generations. We believe in the power of heritage to ignite the imagination, offer joy and inspiration, and to build pride in place and connection to the past.
